Lighting above a dining table: pendants and chandeliers

The right dining table lighting brings the table and room together. Start with the table's proportions, the way you use it and the atmosphere you want to create.

One chandelier or several pendants?

A chandelier gives the dining area a single visual centre. Circle of Life has an organic frame and mouth-blown opal glass, with chandelier diameters of Ø65 cm and Ø91 cm. Compare the overall width with your table and the space around it.

Several pendants give you more freedom to distribute light along a rectangular table. Eternal Moonlight Pendant comes in Ø22 cm and Ø32 cm. Repeating one size creates a calm rhythm; mixing sizes makes the composition more expressive.

How many pendants do you need?

There is no single answer based on table length alone. Consider shade diameter, light output, spacing and whether the table is used for meals, work or both. Before deciding, mark the proposed positions with paper circles in the same diameter as the shades. Check that the arrangement feels balanced from the doorway and from a seated position.

Finding the right hanging height

Test the height with someone seated at each end of the table. The lamps should light the tabletop while allowing people to see one another comfortably. A large shade, a tall centrepiece or an open-plan room can change the right position. Adjust the composition to your actual room before fixing the cord lengths.

Choose the light as carefully as the shape

Mouth-blown opal glass diffuses the light and gives the shade a soft glow. The brightness and colour of the light also depend on your chosen light source. Check socket type, maximum wattage and dimmer compatibility on the product page and in the factsheet. Supplement the table lighting with wall or table lamps when the room needs more than one layer of light.

Make the arrangement part of the room

Look at the lamp alongside chairs, table material and nearby metal finishes. A repeated finish can connect the interior; a contrasting one can turn the lamp into a focal point. Explore dining room lighting and pendants, or contact us with your table dimensions and a photograph of the room.
